When you think about buying an air conditioning unit, it is important to look at the facts and figures of it- its BTU rating, its price and so on. But the look of the unit is actually just as important.
For an office or large business, the air conditioner will probably be in a place where everybody- staff and visitors alike- can see it.
Who would want an obvious and ugly air conditioner that sticks out from the wall and is a talking point for all the wrong reasons in an otherwise smart office? But while it is important to have an air conditioning unit that looks nice, it is also important to have the correct one for your room.
Calculate the size of your room to help you when choosing an air conditioning unit. The retailer should be able to help you with then picking the right one according to your measurements.
Finally, also consider the noise produced by the air conditioning unit. Will it make a lot of noise in an otherwise quiet office? If you have a list of requirements, measurements and other information, the company that is supplying your air conditioning unit will be able to help you choose the most ideal unit.

The good thing about portable air conditioning units is, as their name suggests, they don’t require any permanent installation. However, saying this, they do require an opening through which to vent the warm air.
Portable air conditioning units extract hot air from the room and this air needs venting, otherwise it is pointless having the unit. The best option would be to have the hot air vented outside through a window or some other type of opening.
When purchasing a portable air conditioning unit you should also be provided with a venting kit. The company you choose will be able to answer any questions you might have, and will also help to you to choose the right air conditioning unit for your home or business.

The condenser is the most vital part of the air conditioning unit and needs regular maintenance. A faulty condenser can cause the entire unit to fail or become inefficient. You could also end up spending large amounts of money repairing the air conditioning unit when maintaining the condenser should keep the machine fully working.
- The condenser is the part of air conditioning unit that is based outside the building. Because of this it is prone to accumulating dust, grass and other unwanted particles that will obstruct the airflow. Both the condenser and the condenser coil must be cleaned regularly. Commercial coil cleaner, available at most refrigerator supply stores, is the only chemical you should use to clean the condenser.
- When the dirt has been removed, the fins need to be cleaned; a soft brush is ideal. Be careful when cleaning the fins- if they become bent then they can be straightened with the use of a fin comb.
The company that supplies you with your air conditioning unit should give you all the information you require on cleaning the unit. They should also be able to give you help and advice should you have any questions.

Because air conditioning units remove the moisture from the room, they can have a tendency to store up water that then might leak- window air conditioners are especially notorious for doing this. However, there are some solutions to the leaking problem.
- Draining: When the water builds up inside the unit, it will then drain from the drain hole on the base. If this hole becomes blocked the water will build up and leak out from other areas. Unblock the hole with a small and thin piece of wood.
- Freezing: A problem with the cooling system may cause the water to freeze and ice to form on the coil inside. If there is ice then you will need to call in a technician to service the air conditioning unit.
- Faulty installation: For water to be properly drained away the rear of the air conditioning unit needs to be lower than the front; if it isn’t, the water will drain into the room instead.

The only way that your air conditioning unit will work effectively is if is maintained and checked on a regular basis. It only takes a few small tasks from you to ensure that the air conditioning unit stays in good working order.
- Ductwork: Check the ductwork once a year to keep it clean and make sure it stays that way.
- Air filter: The air filter should be cleaned properly; if there is any dust stuck inside the filter, it will reduce the air flow.
- Compressor compartment: This is the part of the air conditioning unit that is usually placed outside your home. Keeping it clean and free from blockage is important; make sure that any plants nearby are kept tidy to prevent leaves blocking the compressor compartment. It can also be hosed down to make sure that there is no dust that might cause a potential blockage.
By maintaining these three parts, your air conditioning unit should stay efficient and in working order and should not cause any major problems in the future.

It is very rare to see a building or business now that doesn’t have an air conditioning unit somewhere in the building. Usually it is not obvious and you wouldn’t even notice it… until it stops working.
Just because air conditioning units are used so widely and are so commonplace, it does not mean that just anyone can install them. Installation should and needs to be carried out by a professional technician.
- A contractor needs to be hired to clean the air conditioning unit, and not yourself. Certain chemicals need to be used to clean it, and it is essential that the correct chemicals are used.
- Inside the air conditioning unit itself, bacteria and mould can develop, which is not unusual. However, when these spores are released into the air they can harm and infect people. When the contractor cleans the inside of the air conditioning unit, they must do it outside the building and not inside, and use either a vacuum or a brush.
Contractors can sometimes offer lower service charges on an annual contract, which is why it is a good idea to look into various companies and see what they offer before committing to one. Getting your air conditioning unit to run efficiently is not only important, it is always money-saving.

It is a known fact that bacteria and other such microbes multiply and grow in hot and humid areas. As an air conditioning unit can cool the room, it can be an effective weapon in stopping these pollutants.
When natural ventilation is stopped the energy needed to heat and cool the room is reduced. The humidity level is maintained and the same pollutants- smoke, bacteria, mould and viruses- are circulated.
Air conditioning lowers the concentration of these pollutants due to the filter inside the unit; however, buildings with internal ventilation require a less effective filter.
For people with asthma and breathing difficulties, using an air conditioning unit to clean the air in the room is a very useful idea. The fact that the unit takes in the air and purifies it means the sufferer is no longer breathing in potentially harmful bacteria.

For a company to offer a good air conditioning maintenance service, an air conditioning company should offer the following:
- Quick response: for emergency repairs, air conditioning companies should offer an immediate call-out service. If an actual visit is not possible, someone should at least respond to your query within a short amount of time. Most companies that offer a quick response should also state a time limit that they have in which to respond. Usually, if they take longer than the given period, a discount can be offered.
- Fully qualified engineers: The person who turns up to fix your air conditioning unit should be fully qualified and know what they are doing. Some problems you can fix yourself by following instructions in the manual, but for ones that need professional help, the engineer must be fully qualified.
Some companies can offer air conditioning maintenance contracts- taking out such a contract should give you peace of mind about your air conditioning unit. Paying for this contract can also, in most cases, cover the costs of the majority of new parts, if they are needed.

One of the major downsides with air conditioning units is that they can add to your electricity bill. Below are some simple money-saving tips to help you without having to run your air conditioner all day long.
• Closing the shades or curtains in a room will keep it cool.
• Use a ceiling fan in combination with an air conditioner. Turn the air conditioner on first to fill the room with cool air. Once you turn it off, switch on the ceiling fan to circulate the air.
• When you are not at home, turn the air conditioner off. Closing the blinds or curtains will keep the house cool and save you money and energy.
• Keep heat-releasing devices away from your thermostat.
• Always ensure that the air conditioner condenser is kept clean. The condenser unit in your home will also be partly outside the house and cleaning it regularly with a soft brush will help it to work more efficiently while consuming less power.

A home air conditioning unit can help to keep your house cool especially during the hotter summer months. Air conditioning units can control both the heat and the humidity of the room.
Central air conditioning units can be used for cooling during the summer and heating during the winter. Installing such a unit is actually more cost-effective, as you will only need to purchase one unit compared to two. These units are available with either gas or electricity for heating. When it comes to central air conditioning unit maintenance, however, it is best to get in a professional. Do not try fixing one of these units yourself; you are likely to create more problems with it and therefore increase the expense attached to it than you would by calling in an expert.
An energy efficient air conditioning unit can save you money in the long term with lower electricity bills each month.
